Adhesives & Sealants
Silicones (also known as polysiloxanes) are inert synthetic compounds that are typically heat-resistant and come in various forms including Silicone Oil, Silicone Grease, Silicone Rubber, Silicone Resin and Caulk. Silicone adhesives and sealants are self-priming materials that form reliable, long-lasting bonds to a variety of substrates, including ceramics, metals, glass and filled plastics – all without the need for mechanical fastening and clamping. Silicone bonds can be much stronger than traditional physical systems that rely on bolting or welding.
Silicone sealants are materials of choice to work under great stress and pressure and in the most hostile environments of temperature range, abrasion or extreme climate, where normal techniques will fail. Although silicones block the passage of liquids, they, however, let through water as vapour. Silicone rubber itself is a good insulator (of both heat and electricity). Many of Phelps Silicone Sealants & Adheives are UL and Mil Spec compliant.
Silicone Sealants are used in various industries including Construction, Automotive, Machinery, and Furniture. Applications include structural glazing for façades, structural adhesives for panels and partitions, water and weather proofing materials, repair and replacement of failed organic sealants. Other applications include: self-adhesive insulation mats, painting and lining films, exterior fitting adhesives.
